Suitable Material for a Wood Fence?

Posted by EdF on May 24th, 2000 07:36 AM

Depending on how you look at it, I've been blessed with a property line that's 160 feet long, and boarders a road. My project for this summer, is to lay a fence along this line. I've gotten a couple estimates, somewhere in the neighborhood of $12-$16 per foot, for a 6' solid cedar fence - doing the math, that's between $2000 and $2500.

I've priced-out materials at a couple different places, and come-up with $700 for pressure-treated, and $1300 for cedar.

My question is simply this: Given a reasonable amount of care (sealer every few years), what's a good estimate for life of these 2 materials?
