In reply to What is a good finish for a redwood deck by Lane Siebenthal on August 6th, 2000 03:44 PM [Go to top of thread]

I would suggest something that penetrates the wood and offers additional protection and is not merely topical.

Verathane is topical and does have a yellowish tint to the woods appearance and it does not do well with the sun's rays. I am sure you have seen those doors and other wooden surfaces peel.

I would suggest using something like the product by the Flood Company called CWF-UV. It comes in clear and other colors. It does penetrate into the wood and does a fair job.

Now, this is not a lifetime treatment, I go over my decks every Spring with another coat and it looks good all year.

There are other products on the market, but I have had alot of good support and looks on my custom built decks that I build for people.

Good Luck,,
