Sue: Try Butane...

I purchased a piece of Belleek porcelain from a local Hallmark Shop, and watched rather nervously as the clerk took out a can of butane (for cigarette lighters) and a rag and removed the price sticker residue for me. I thought for sure the butane would do damage, but she said they use it all the time to remove adhesive on fine porcelain and other pieces. I've tried it since in my home, have gotten old, yellowed scotch tape residue off antique silverplate, sticker residue off antique copper & pewter without damage. You'll have to use some elbow grease, but hopefully it will work. It sure does work well on other adhesives with no damage from fingernail/knife scratches.
