Hi G. Reed , There are a couple of things to consider. Is it a load bearing wall. If it is , I thing I would . If it's not , secure a short 2x4 on either side, enough to give the stud it's strenght back . I would also cut out the rotten areas. Whats your bottom plates look like? { The 2x4 lying on the floor.} Replacing the studs will not work if they don,t have any thing to sit on. Remember, if it's a load bearing wall , replace only one stud at a time. Hope I covered all the bases, if not, maybe someone can jump in and add more. Ron J.
