Hi Joan, the indented area in the back top section of the metal cabinet may be where another hanger feature is holding the cabinet to the wall. Its possible the soffit was added afterwards but not very likely these drop down soffits are usually put in areas like the kitchen to conceal pipes or wiring where lack of attic space exist to route it all. we had a similar soffit in our kitchen that dropped down about a foot from the ceiling for these same reasons and we had metal kitchens cabinets installed under them as well similar to yours sounds like. Hopefully pulling the fridge out from under this cabinets that you want to remove will help you figure out how to get it unstuck from the wall and or soffit, whereever the remaining hangup is occurring. Post back with you findings and further success in removing this cabinets..I have run out of suggestions short of takimg a crowbar to pry it off the wall while being careful to not damage your drywalled wall j/kidding not a good idea!. Hoping someone else might have a bright idea. LJ
