Hi Dan!

To stucco over brick you first need to install metal lath over the brick w/self furring nails that hold lath out from wall, promotes good adhesion of the stucco. Then stuccoing requires three coats-
1.Scratch coat- trowel on about a 3/8 thick layer of stucco first, then trowel it smooth. Now scratch it w/a scarifier(you can make it from a 2X2 w/10d nails through it @ 1" spacing). These "scratchs" make sure your next layers have good adhesion.Oh yeah,if you can mist it w/a spray bottle over next 2 days to help it cure slower and stronger.
2.Brown coat- trowel on and smooth brown coat.Let that cure.
3.Finish coat-trowel on your finish coat a little thinner than your scratch coat.If you want to texture it as it begins to set up work it into whatever texture you want.I like the a "marbled" finish(smooth your finish coat w/stiff brush then as it sets "knock down" the high spots w/a trowel.I think it looks sharp!Have fun!
