stripping woodwork

Posted by Mom on July 16th, 2001 11:43 PM

I want to strip about 6 layers of paint off of the wonderful oak woodwork in our old home. I tried it and it has been slow going and a BIG mess. I am using a chemical stripper, Strip-eze type. The main problem is the 2 coats of latex paint that are on top. The stripper turns them to gum which is hard to remove not only from the wood but my tools, work surface, and everything it touches. If I could find something else to use I would finish the job. I have done a lot of furniture but nothing has been this difficult before. Help would be appreciated.
