Stripping paint

I dislike heat guns so my answer is somewhat schewed. Having removed both paint and stain from the inside as well as the outside of a 100
year old house I feel that I have had the best success with chemical strippers. Putting the paste like substance on, letting it stand and then removing the paint with either a putty knife, wood chips or a paper towel worked really well. I then washed off the residue with paint thinner and then water.
