One comment that I would make is that I don't feel that it is normally worth stripping pine moldings. At the same time, it is definately worth stripping oak, cherry or other hardwood. You can usually tell what kind of wood it is just by comparison with a known sample. One thing that might make this more difficult is that cherry darkens with age even under paint but then the grain pattern is more inportant than color in making this determination.
