stripping floors

Fear not the drum sander, but it is a tough heavy job that takes time, turns your back into a bed of nails and your knees into hamburger. Pine is a soft wood and is less forgiving than a hardwood floor, but that is an advantage when you get down on your knees with the finishing sander. To build your confidence, use a hand held belt sander to do a test area, then a finishing sander to polish it up. Ya, the old finish will gum up the sand paper, (my last floor job cost more in sandpaper than equipment rental) Defects usually add to the character of the floor.
