Is this stupid, or crazy? We recently bought a 1905 house in Minnesota, and it has cedar shakes that were painted a light green color. The paint is now peeling badly; you can remove large chunks with your fingers. My wife and I are wondering if it is possible to strip them with cob blasting (or something else) and then bleach or stain them. I'm seeing posts indicating that cob blasting may be too harsh. They are true rough-hewn shakes, impossible to scrape or sand.
