Storm windows on an old house

Hi Liz
The answer really depends on how true to restoration you want to be for your 215 year old house. Purists (or those leaning in that direction) wouldn't dream of putting an aluminum storm window on your house....nor multi-pane windows either...although they migh consider an inside storm window that can't be seen from the outside.

Personally, I wouldn't use aluminum triple track storms on such a house (although I have installed them on all 32 of the windows of my current 1950 colonial). Rather, I'd build wooden storm windows with a frame that matches the wood of the windows. I would remove these and store them in the summer.
