Steps using 5 x 5 timbers

Posted by Robert G on June 30th, 2004 06:18 AM

I have a walkout basement. When I walk out the basement door and want to walk to the front of the house I must climb a steep hill. I'am thinking
of using 5 x 5 treated timbers and create steps.
I plan on removing the sod and top soil (6 inches)
and replacing it with sand which will be tapped down. One end of the timber will have to be raised
several inches due to the lay of the land to obtain a level step. I have 3 steps semi completed
all the while wondering if I'am going about this
the right way. Whatcha think?
