Hi", Matt, I dont quite understand, have you bought a house or are you thinking about it,?. In my line of work, I some times meet companies that build steel framed houses, mainly emergency accommodation facilites but they also build quality homes, and basicly the have replaced the timber that goes in to a house, from the floor to the roof, all is in steel,. The system I know and have worked on has been going for some time now and in relation to fire their test results show that dwellings constructed using the system will meet building regulations requirement for fire resistance are as follows:
External walls. ( half-hour (from inside)) External walls. ( half-hour (from outside)) (with masonry outer leaf) First floor ( half-hour (from underside)) Separating walls. ( One-hour (from either side) Tile hanging to stepped saprating wall ( half-hour (from either side).
Thermal insulation: The "U" value (thermal transmittance measured in Wm-2K-1 are : Roof: ( with 100mm of rock fibre insulation at ceiling level 0.32 External wall: ( with 35mm of insulation ) 0.35 ( with 50mm of insulation ) 0.28
But I can babble on all night, so if you have not bought your house yet, and you have the drawings ( plans) let me see what I can get for you from Europe... John 2000
