This happened to a friend and I solved it as follows:

First bail out all the water from the sink and let it sit. Hopefully some more water may leak down the drain reducing the volume of water still in the pipes.

Now that the "cool" water has been reduced- add BOILING water and it *should* do the trick. If not then why not try an auger (snake) before calling a plumber.
