This really isn't hard to do but it takes a while to describe. What it basically involves is figuring your run and dividing by probable tread width, doing the same with rise and riser height. Then put these dimensions on a framing square and marking and cutting the triangles out. Check your library for a book with lots of pictures and it will be a lot easier for you to understand. The harder problem will be the railings. You may have to have a building permit for this and in any case, you will want to check with your building inspector to see what your local codes call for as far as openings, bannisters, etc. There are 3 national codes covering this and localities vary. In any case, you will want this to be safe for you and your family and not want to have the building inspector to come by one day and tell you to tear it down.
