Hi, Don. No stain will make pine look like oak or like poplar. They are different woods, have different base colors and will take any kind of stain differently, unless the stain is so dark that it comes out looking more like a paint than a stain. You can use tone sprays to blend the effect of a stain on various woods but this takes a lot of experience and then would be very difficult to do on crown molding that was in place.
