The problem you have here is that oil stain is intended to penetrate the wood fibers. This isn't a matter of just scraping the color off the outside of the log. The stain could have penetrated as much as an 1/8th inch or more. I assume you don't want to remove that much wood by sanding and scraping, so I think you have to look at whatever process Formby's furniture refinishing uses, or paint. I hope someone else has a better suggestion, I'm certainly no expert on this one...
