squirrls in attic

I have a Cape Cod type home and squirrls have chewed holes in the top edges of the dormer window casings. I have heard that moth balls will keep them away if I put them in the holes. I can close the holes, but they will probably just chew new ones. It was suggested that cutting all trees close to the house would help, but this isn't practiable. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
