We will be building at 10,600 ft in southern CO. Our only water supply will be a bubbling spring (tested free of bacteria). Local builders advise to bury a 3 ft diam, 20 ft long, culvert pipe vertically in a bed of gravel. Pipe will have holes cut in to allow water seepage, and cap it under frost line. Bury the pipe in the spring site will allow water to collect in the culvert pipe, then pump it into buried cisterns for household usage. This method sounds kinda hinky, is this really the way it's done or is there a better way of developing a spring?
