One other item...

Though it's not a DIY insulation installation, if you wanted a "hot roof," hire someone to spray polyiso or icynene between he rafters and on the underside of the roof sheathing. For a vented roof, the baffles could be installed and the foam sprayed right over them as well.

It's pricey...but it'll be as airtight as anything, it'll be done in one afternoon, and you'll have instant R-7+ per inch of sprayed foam insulation.

All without haivng to build down and lose attic headroom.

Fast, air-tight, a high R-value, but expensive.
