Hi Jill,
I have a 2 hole split rail fence around my home that I installed myself. I purchased my gates premade from a fencing company that installs fences, but also sells materials. Since I knew ahead of time what premade sizes were available, I spaced my gate posts to accomodate the gates I could get. My gates are all 48" wide, to allow equipment to go through. As for yours, I would locate a fencing company that normally installs split rail fences in your area, and have them make a gate for you to fit between your posts. They cost about $30. The hinges are very simple lag screw types that get screwed right into the gate post. The gate "latch" is a round metal hoop that bolts on the other post and swivels up or down to capture the gate. If you can view JPEG pictures, I'll take a digital photo and e-mail it to you.
