soundproofing insulation

Posted by Dan Eriksen on January 21st, 1998 02:08 AM

I am currently building a metal stud wall next to an existing wall to control sound from the neighbors. Due to size constraints I will be using 2 1/2 in metal studs. Would it be better to use 3 1/2 in insulation and compress it into the wall cavity? I know compressing loses r-value but would it gain sound reduction?
Thanks in advance.
