Soundproofing - Condo

Posted by Bob Bustamante on April 14th, 1999 08:48 PM

I live in a condo ( I'm on the 1st floor of 3 floors)I;m gonna say this is an Apartment conversion built somewhere along 1975 (Los Angeles CA (San Fernando Valley) in which there are common walls...

My problem... whenever someone is going up the stairwell I hear them and my wall vibrates...

When the folks on the 2nd and 3rd floor turn on the water (shower, flushing of toilet, kitchen - diswasher, the most annoying is the waste water running down the common stack) I hear it as if it was coming from my unit...

I even hear there phone ring on the 2nd floor (above me) Also we have a Sub-T garage, of which my condo sits over the Boiler room, so I hear the water running... I hear the water transfering from the solar water heater reserve into the gas water heater. this has all become annoying.

Do I have to live with this or can it be corrected... Is there a inexpensive way of soundproofing.

Not sure if this matters, but the building was completely re-hab from the 1995 earthquake.

Any help would be appreciated.
