The best method is to isolate the kitchen wall from the bedroom wall. Add a 1.5 inch extension to the base plate and header plate on the common wall. Then put in another complete set of studs that are staggered from the first set, so they don't touch each other. Then add your batt insulation. The idea is that the drywall on the kitchen side and the bedroom side don't share the same studs, therefore the sound has a difficult time transmitting. Of course, those 12 & 14 year olds will be off to college in 4 to 6 years, and then you may find it too quiet!
Good Luck!
