Sound Proofing hardwood floors

Posted by Sasha Prokopoff on March 9th, 2001 12:23 PM

I'm laying a new hardwood floor. Currently I'm down to the joists so I have a clean slate. Working only from the top (ceiling treatments for the unit below will be done later) I'm filling the joist bays with Fiberglass, then screwing and gluing 3/4" plywood to the joists. After that I'm not sure, I was planing to sandwhich some type of material between the first layer of plywood and top it with another layer of 5/8"
I've heard of "Whisper Walk", "Silent Step", Loaded vinyl acoustic mat (very dense) and homosote.

Which one(s) should be used? What about the fasteners for the 5/8" plywood penetrating the acoustic material?
If something is to be laid on top of the 5/8" but below the hardwood flooring, how much is resiliency an issue?
