Hi Steven,
I dont know if it just one room or the whole house
but if its only in one room then.
you can fix 4 x 2 to the wall and fill between with
fibreglass, then plasterboard the wall ( it wont stop all the sound
but it will cut it down a lot,)you will also have to
replace the wall plugs ( if you have any on that wall,.)
Start in the centre of the wall, ( the middle) drill and screw the 4x2
to it, use a 6" screw, as 4 screws to each 4x2.
but first fix a 4x2 on the floor tight to the wall
then do the same on the ceiling, then cut and fit the 4x2 between them
and start as I said from the middle, and work you way out left to the wall
then right to the wall, the uprights will have tobe at 12" centers
and then fill with 4" ( 12cm) fibreglass, dont leave any small holes
when you've done that, you can then fix the plasterboard, again start from
the middle and work you way back,
control the boards, by getting a 2ft lath, and place it on the 4x2
and see how it come at the ends near the wall.
you dont want silly strips at the sides, then fix to the top rail and the bottom
the bottom is for the plinth,
enjoy, ...John 2000
