Maybe an Idea for you... I know this may sound tacky, but years ago they used to have a tiolet where the tank hung on the wall above the bowl. Maybe something like this will save you some money. Maybe you could build a cabinet around the this tank if you elect to go this route.....
Just some thoughts.. Also, I have seen an adaptor to attach to the closet flange (the part that holds the bolts to secure the toilet).
Anyhow, They make a fitting to offset the center of the flange.. Sounds like you only need a couple of inches... Hope this helps!
PS do you have a basement? You could probably move the plumbing underneath without screwing up the floor. Hopefully you have a basement, this bathroom is on the 1st floor, and your pipes are PVC. If so, I would look at just moving the flange.. The toilet may cover the old hole, or you could probably patch that area easily. Good Luck.
