Thanks for your reply. I should have been more specific. These are sliding patio doors (without an outer nailing flange). They're extruded vinyl channel, not vinyl clad wood. I've already completed the rough opening with a 1/4" gap on the sides and 1/2" on top. The vinyl frame is assembled and ready to instal. My plan was to shim and screw top, middle, and bottom on the fixed glass side, hidden in the door channel and the same on the sliding glass side (the middle one thru one of the latch catch screw holes). This will only leave 2 screw heads exposed. Also, I was under the impression it's not a good idea to secure the top jamb due to possible flex/sag of the header?? Lastly, do you recommend expanding foam on the sides, and insulation on the top...or insulation all around? You're the pro. How does this sound?
