I would have lightly sanded to only rough up the surface. Priming, well, some do it that way. I for one do not, my priming looks closely to a finish coat, but that is my standard.

If you are at all concerned and worried, stop the work and ask your local paint dealer or find a new contractor.

I do feel that you will be OK. The more of a base with the primer will cause less finish coats to be applied, a primer finish like what your describing might call for more finish coats.

Ask him/her how many coats of paint will go on the end, meaning finish coats.
