In reply to bend a piece of 3"X 24"X 1/8" lanear plywood by Jeannie on January 19th, 2000 05:18 PM [Go to top of thread]

Hi Jeannie, in order to properly bend wood you'd need a
"steam box", which the average person doesn't have.
However, bending wood "somewhat" can be accomplished by
making kerf cuts on the inside of the wood. You stated
that the plywood is 1/8" thick, which is very thin so I
don't know if doing kerf cuts will work but it's worth
a try. Kerf cuts are cuts made across the 3" (in your case)
about every 1/2" (or so) and normally 1/3 to 1/2 the
thickness of the board. Because of the thickness of
your wood, I would make the cuts about 1/32" or about the
thickness of the first ply of the wood. Good luck!
