MDF? No.

OSB vs ply? Some good, some bad. OSB doesn't hold nails as well as ply. If glueing, some manufacturers don't want you glueing their product down over OSB.

Personally, I prefer and always use ply. Stagger the seams over the existing half-inch, and screw every 8" in the field, 4-6" on the seams.

If bamboo, I've seen a lot of bamboo and the best to date is made by TimberGrass. TimberGrass.com, I believe. Very nice product with an excellent factory finish.
