solid 2x4 studs vs. fingergroove studs

Posted by TOM on April 8th, 2000 04:20 PM

Our builder has given us info. that they use only solid
2x4 16" on center studs for framing, stating that the
finger groove engineered studs were "high risk", and
therefore they did not use them. Upon investigating the home, we found NOTHING BUT finger groove studs through out the home including load bearing walls. After inquiring with the builder, they are now stating that the orig. info was wrong and the finger groove studs really are better. Could you clarify this for us? Are they giving us the bait and switch? Thanks
