What was the hardness as tested by the water company? Also get a couple water sample bottles from sears. Get a sample before the softner and one after the softner. Take them back to sears for testing. Then post those results also. Also you can get used to the softness/slimy feel and not notice it. Set the unit to bypass, run all the water out of the hot water heater, and then take a shower. Then set the softner back to soften, run all the water out of the hot water heater, and then take a shower with soft water to see if you feel the difference. Do this with a spouse/boyfriend to see if either one notices a difference (in case you have different skin sensitivies) and to have fun at the same time.
