If the pump pit is sealed, then you don't smell anything in that closet because it is sealed very well. Therefore, the drain tile around your house could also be vented by putting a power vent on the sump pit (like the radon power vents that are available) Trouble is, the last time I checked they cost about $160 for just the blower.
Anyway, if a negative pressure could be generated in the drain tile completely around the house foundation, I would think the odor would be vented out as well. Venting out the side wall is not nearly as good as venting out the roof, and power venting is even better.
You lost me on what the basement walkout had to do with the sump pit. I'm probably missing something here.
