smoke alarm

I have exactly the same problem. After 10 years, my hard-wired smoke alarm chirps randomly between 3am and 6am, no other time. It's driving us crazy. I opened it up, and trust me, there is no battery anwhere in it, nor can I find a link anywhere to any other kind of backup battery (I'd know if there was such a thing in my home after 10 years). I can only think the unit itself is old and needs replacing. I'm going to blow it out with pressurized air and see if that fixes it, either that or an new unit...
