Slab vs. Crawl space

Hi Mike:
The only advantage I can think of for a slab foundation is cost.....they are less costly to have installed. All the other attributes of a slab are, IMVHO, negative.

With a crawl space you have access to plumbing and wiring (to the first floor), and subsequent wiring or plumbing you may wish to do is considerably easier, including speaker wire, phone wire, TV cable, computer cables, intercoms, etc, etc.. With good insulation techniques your selection of flooring is much broader and easier to change in the future. Being up off the ground, houses with crawl spaces are less prone to be damaged by those rare but very harmful high water tables following heavy rains and/or big snow melts.
