slab or posts

Posted by Monica on March 13th, 2003 04:48 PM

We are putting a 20 x 40 addition on to our home, so my mother-in-law can move in. She is 73 years old.
Our questions is, we need to watch our dollars, as I don't work. Which is less expensive and in the long run has less problems to deal with? We live in Maine, so frost is a concern. We are also putting in a bathroom and kitchen for her, so plumbing is a concern also. We are putting in a mobile home type of heating sytem, with duct work to heat the 15 x 20 livingroom and 15 x 20 bedroom and the 10 x 7 bathroom. Please let me know what you would recommend slab or posts. Having a foundation would be out of the question, as we have only about $20000 to spend on the whole thing. We are taking out a loan to pay for this, so we must make sure it will last for 20 years.....thanks again
