sistering studs

Posted by judy on June 27th, 2001 08:20 PM

working on private house soon. victum of years of neglect. found a few ground level studs rotting 4 to 8 inches up. someone said I can just "sister" the problem away by reaching (outside wood is going anyway for residing) in screwing a stud to but above the rot and then cut the bad stud out above the rot. this would obviously save a lot of work rebuilding the interior walls. question : is there a structural limit to how many consecutive studs can be sistered if any ? I am pretty sure I am looking at a load bearing exterior wall. All opinions and any positive info appreciated. Thanx, Ude 27
