Sinking foundation

Posted by Brad on October 22nd, 1999 10:09 PM

The far corner of my foundation (other side of the garage from the house) is sinking. The previous owners had run a piece of PVC over there from the downspout in order to water a garden. I knew it was sunk about 2 inches at the time I bought the house and it was figured in, so this is not lightning from a blue sky. I've fixed the drainage problem and now I'd like to raise that corner. The house sits on caissons. I had some engineering companies out to give me estimates on piering that corner and raising it. They all came in about $2500. There is a general problem with bentonite and such in our general area, so all of these firms are experienced. The thing is, none of them seemed very confident that they could actually get that corner up where it needs to be. I haven't checked these companies references yet, but I would like to hear from other people on this list who have had this sort of thing done. Have you had much success having this done?
