My previous correspondence was not very clear. Allow me to clarify. I am removing an old fence/gate post out of the concrete part of my backyard. I would like to sink a new post approximately five inches away from the previous hole. I was wondering if chipping through the concrete with a cold chisel will be a long (read: unrealstic) endevour or can I enlarge the current hole sideways enough to meet where I want to put the new post and fill in the sides with concrete mix. I am of course intrested in the stability of having the post inbedded in the ground. Or would you suggest that I place the post on the concrete surface and just place additional concrete around the base of the post? Should I use a metpost type base to anchor the post into the concrete that's there? Is it difficult to do? Is it secure and will it keep the post in place? Any other options?
