siding with open rafter tails?

Posted by dr burt on October 21st, 2002 10:34 PM

My house has what I think is called "open" or "exposed rafter tails". There is no sofit or fascia. I like the way it looks without sofit or fascia. I have been considering vinyl or steel siding because of old, existing lead paint issues on the wood (I don't want to mess with the danger or hassle of removing all the layers of paint down to the bare wood). Does anyone know if there is any method of forming siding around these exposed rafters? Or any ideas of how to cover the wood and make it look good without adding fascia and sofit ? Thanks in advance!
