For the better part of 1974 I lived in the little town of Southfork, Colorado, and worked on Wolf Creek Pass (up on the great divide) as an inspector for the Colorado Highway Dept. Good job, top wages, beautiful country, huge (windfall) per diem for living up there, lotsa Texans up for the summer who couldn't shoot pool or play cards as well as they thought, and my side job as EOC officer had me cruising all the nearby towns searching for women willing to live and work up on the pass. They all happened to be young and single. gee. What a time.
