Steve: has a lot of ideas so I won't repeat any. There are a LOT of ideas.
One thing I wouldn't do is 'install' anything that is black. If you do, it will absorve a LOT of the sun's energy and generate a lot of heat INSIDE the home. If you're gonna use black drapes, I'd first install heavy, WHITE sheers, then install black on the INSIDE-most part of the set-up. In other words, you'd have your glass, the sheers, then the black drapes.
You might even find a drape that's white on 1 side and black on the other, and it's all 1 'piece'. It would be a bit heavy (I'd suspect), so if you install something that's heavy, make sure you're screwing (not nailing) into the header (and not just plain drywall.) If there are only studs to 'attach' to, be sure to use them.
My best to ya and hope this helps.

PS: I haven't recently priced out vertical blinds but you'd probably have to get them in 'sections'. Geesh, I HOPE they don't sell blinds that are 12' across!!!
