A couple of things I would find out from the contractor you call is whether they have a moisture meter (so they can tell how far your problem has spread); and if they know about mold remediation. Slow leaks can cause harmful molds to grown inside the walls! This isn't just a case for stopping the leak, you need take care of the damage that the water has already caused. I recognize that there is a lot of controversy about mold (and whether or not it really is harmful) but my husband took two years to recover from an exposure to mold growing in an air conditioning system so I believe that it is.
