Hi! We're remodeling a 50's ranch with more of a Craftsman look. We're considering changing from painted board and batten siding to shingles (stained or sealed). We live in fire country and are deciding between fire-treated cedar shakes (or maybe shingles) and (?) "cedar impressions" vinyl siding meant to look like cedar. Or, if either are really too expensive, maybe we'll only be able to re-side with fresh board and batten and use stain instead of paint. Worst case, we'll just repaint the existing siding! Any experience with these ideas? I'm having trouble getting a handle on the relative costs! Thanks.
