I want to finish some unpainted end tables to match the woodwork in a room. The wood has Amber shellac on it. I would like to get the same amber tone and depth as shellac, but need the water-proofing of poly. I know you shouldn't put poly over shellac (why, I don't know), so how do I save all my hard work from water rings?
p.s. Don't say use coasters, they always forget.
