Sewer Odor in Kitchen

Posted by Kimberly on October 27th, 2002 01:02 AM

We had a dishwasher leak over four months (June) ago and replaced it in August. Starting in September we starting having an odor in the kitchen coming from around dishwasher area (underneath and between cracks of cabinet and dishwasher). We pulled off bottom of baseboard under cabinets. You can tell where cabinets were wet and swelled but no signs of mold. There is a roof venting system in that area that is hooked up to the plumbing system and thought maybe it had something clogging it causing sewer fumes to come back into the house. We ran the garden hose and flushed with water but it did not seem to be the problem. Could there be mold or something behind the cabinets or in the wall that we can not see causing this smell after so many months and for such a length of time? Sometimes the smell is stronger than others. You can really catch whiffs of it. There is no smell coming from the sink drain or the vent on the sink for the dishwasher drain and we haven't noticed a draining problem but the smell is sewer like. We have had a couple of people come out but they did not find anything. We are at are wits end to get rid of this odor. We do not know if it is related to the dishwasher problems we had or not.
