Sewer Gas

Posted by Matt on December 19th, 2002 03:47 PM

I have a four story building, over 100 years old. When I bought the building several years ago there was HSulfide eminating from one shower on the top floor. We removed that shower to put in a W/D and the problem diminished greatly. There was still a little gas seepage from an ajacent floor drain (also on the top floor) but not nearly as bad. Now we have moved out and replaced the shower. The sewer gas is once again overwhelming.

Any suggestions on how to track this down?

The gas smell only eminates from one floor, the top floor. I'm at a total loss. I've had two plumbers look at it and neither can give me an answer that makes sense, nor can they recommend a method for trouble shooting.
