Should we be concerned with cracks and shifting in concrete block footings on a 50 year old house (maybe 5 or 6 total with 2 or 3 on one side)? A structural engineer looked at the outside of the house where there is a separation in the stucco with a small crack running along an outside corner of the house maybe 5' long. He also looked at a crack running about 24" long from an inside corner of a bedroom window on the same wall. His advice was to make sure water is being drained away from the house properly so that water stays away from the footings, but did not think the present drainage of the house was of concern. He suggested building up dirt surrounding the house so water would drain down and away from the house. He said that if the house has remained for the 50 years it's not going anywhere. But we have heard about epoxy and stapping and would like more information. Would like to be sure everything is maintained properly. All suggestions would be appreciated.
